Ice cream and gelato are popular dessert choices around the world. The frozen treats aren’t going anywhere in terms of consumer purchases and ice cream trends continue to get more and more creative each year.
In fact, in 2013 about 1.53 billion gallons of ice cream and related frozen desserts were produced in the US, according to the International Dairy Foods Association. In 2014, US companies alone made more than 872 million gallons of ice cream for the American population who, on average, consume almost 22 pounds of ice cream per year.
The Classics Remain Popular
According to a survey of International Ice Cream Association member companies, vanilla remains the most popular flavor among consumers. Other popular flavors include Chocolate Chip Mint and Cookies and Cream. But producers of ice cream continue to push boundaries in terms of creative flavors, like Mint Cookie Crunch and Espresso Explosion, which are two flavors from Nelson’s Ice Cream.
Premium Ice Cream
Premium ice cream is cited as the most popular product with consumers according a survey of US ice cream manufacturers. Premium ice cream tends to have higher fat content than regular ice cream, and the manufacturer uses higher quality ingredients.
